Cumin Seed

The dried white, grey-brown fruit of a little, slender annual plant is called cumin. There are five main ridges on the fruit’s surface, each covered in a large number of tiny hairs, and four smaller, subordinate ridges. Its height ranges from 15 to 50 cm. The fruit is 3 to 6 mm long, oval in shape, elongated, slightly bitter, and has a warm flavour. It looks like a seed. Little umbels of white or rose-colored blooms are present.

Cumin is renowned for its fragrant, spicy-sweet flavour and is the third most popular spice in the world. Since ancient times, the seeds have been a staple in many delicious cuisines all over the world.

Turmeric Finger & Powder

The rhizomes of Curcuma longa are boiled, dried, cleaned, and polished to make turmeric. With tufted leaves and a short stem, the plant can grow to a height of 60 to 90 centimetres. The pseudo stem is composed of seven to twelve leaves and sheaths. The lamina measures 30–40 cm in length and 8–12 cm in width. It is light green below and green above. The primary spike of the flower is 10 to 15 cm long. One by one, the 1-4 flowers that emerge from the bract axil open. About thirty blooms are produced per a spike. An inflorescence contains one or more submerged capsules that are utilised to grow seeds.

Coriander Seed & Powder

One important spice crop that enhances food flavour is coriander. Growing to a height of 25 to 50 cm on a slender stem, the plant is a small, bushy herb with multiple branches and umbels. The leaves are complex and alternating. A lovely aroma permeates the entire plant. An inflorescence is a compound umbel made up of five separate umbels. When pushed, the globular fruit, which has a diameter of 3–4 mm, breaks into two locules, each of which contains a single seed. The seeds range in colour from pale white to pale brown, and the fruit has a subtle scent.

The young plant gives soups and curries flavour and aesthetic appeal. Whether or not they are roasted, the fruits (seeds) are frequently used as spices in curry powders, sausages, and other condiments. Breads, meat items, puddings, syrups, soda, candy preserves, and alcoholic beverages all require it as an ingredient. Additionally, it is employed in the manufacturing of flavourings for food. It serves as a diuretic, aphrodisiac, carminative, and refrigerant in medicines. It is an ingredient in over-the-counter medications that treat nausea, seasonal fever, and nausea-related disorders.

Chilli Pepper & Powder

One of the most significant spices in India and the rest of the world is the chilli pepper. India’s chillies are a global favourite. Each year, tonnes of chiles are shipped overseas by an Indian exporter. Chilli pepper’s wide range of culinary applications is a factor in its rising appeal. All of the product’s variations are exported along with chilli peppers.

Black Pepper & Powder

Southern India’s hot, humid regions are home to the perennial climber plant Piper nigrum. Black pepper is the mature, dried fruit of this bush. Under cultivation, pepper vines are produced in columns that are 6-7 meters high and 1-2 meters in diameter. To assist the vines adhere to the support trees, or standards, each climbing woody stem has expanding nods with attaching roots at each node. The lateral shoots that emerge from the leaf axils lack adventitious roots and have shorter nodes between them, while the main stem climbs straight up.

Fennel Seed

It is biennial, strong, aromatic, glabrous, and 1.5 to 1.8 meters tall. The ripe fruit, also called the seed, is small, spherical, cylindrical, 6.8 mm long, greenish yellow, severely wrinkled, five-ridged, straight or slightly curved, and fragrant.

They are used to decorate fennel leaves. Leaves and stems are common in salads.

It’s a standard pizza topping and an essential ingredient in Italian sausages. Due to their fragrant aroma and flavour, dried fruits are used as masticatory. Additionally, they can be used to flavour meat meals, soups, sauces, liquors, pastries, and confections. The fruits are aromatic, carminative, and stimulant.

Fenugreek Seed

The mature fruit of an annual plant is fenugreek seed. The height of this hardy plant is between 30 and 60 cm. It produces thin, beaked pods that are 10 to 15 cm long, and its leaves are light green. Each pod contains 10 to 20 tiny, smooth, rectangular, hard, yellowish-brown seeds that are about 3 mm long and have a groove down one corner that makes them look hooked.

In addition to its usage in food and medicinal, fenugreek is also utilised as a food additive. In curries, the tender, fresh pods, leaves, and shoots are consumed as a vegetable. As a spice, it gives food flavour. A wide range of meals can be flavoured and garnished with dried leaf powder.

Cardamom

Due to its flavourful and fragrant properties, cardamom is sometimes called the “Queen of Spices.” Despite being one of the priciest spices, you only need a small amount to taste its flavour. One of the oldest spices in the world is cardamom. Cardamom is a necessary garnish for pulaos and biryanis. It smells strongly of resin and has a strong, distinct flavour.

It is frequently used in Indian cooking, particularly in masala chai (spicy tea) and traditional Indian desserts. The seeds lose their flavour rapidly when ground or exposed to air, thus it is best to keep them in their pods. The potent cardamom-coffee mixture known as “gahwa” is frequently made with green cardamom.

Clove

Commercial clove is the unopened, air-dried bloom bud of a medium-sized evergreen tree. Cloves are mostly used whole or ground for flavourings and culinary purposes in the food industry. Its taste complements both savoury and sweet meals. Because of its stimulating, fragrant, and carminative qualities, it is highly prized in medicine.

Clove oil is utilised in medicine, particularly for pharyngeal, oral, and dental therapies, due to its antiseptic and antibacterial qualities. It is most frequently found in toothpaste and mouthwash formulas, soaps, and scents. Additionally, it is thought to improve the way that diabetics absorb sugar.

Of all the foods, cloves have the highest level of antioxidant activity. Cloves can be used to treat tooth pain and other dental conditions because of their analgesic qualities. They also improve blood circulation and memory.
